A Stick and A Stone Night Vision
Night Vision is a multimedia album by Philadelphia musician, A Stick and A Stone, which invited a vast array of visual and performance artists to conceptualize the songs by creating original work which illustrated their personal interpretations of the music. The multidisciplinary project interweaves music, visual art and performance to explore the polarities between the visible and invisible, the natural and the supernatural; internal experience of gender, senses of heightened awareness and encounters with spirits of the unseen world.
The music of Night Vision contains 11 new songs written by Elliott Harvey (A Stick and A Stone) over the past two years and recorded with a number of other musicians. In January of 2013 a series of events were held in select east coast cities and featured performance art, dance and shadow puppets based around the songs from the album. On top of that, a series of 11 drawings were created by 11 artists – each artist picked a different song to illustrate.
Night Vision is an album in which deliberate yet sparse instrumental arrangements contrast with complex intertwining vocal lines. Throughout the eleven songs, Harvey's expressive voice and lyrics remain the focal point over a range of musical territory that primarily sticks within an acoustic palette. Lyrics alluding to cosmos, ghosts, inner gender and apocalypse are supported by a framework of delicate stringed instruments (banjo, harp, mandolin), keyboards and harsher textures of distorted electric bass, noise, drums and bowed guitar and cello.
Note: The offset prints included in the record are now sold out. We are only selling the 12" here. There may be plans to do another pressing though. See the prints below:
