Still Sweet Pirouette 7"
Still Sweet's first 7" collects two new songs written by Darian Scatton and recorded in the spring and summer of 2012 with Benjamin Schurr (percussion & electric bass) and Gabrielle Smith (backing vocals). Taking advantage of the 7" format, this release presents Scatton's music at its most concise and immediate and draws on his prolonged love for 60's girl groups and synth pop.
Pirouette is a sad and wistful tango centered around interweaving guitar, harp and synth parts and features Smith's hollowed harmonies blended with Scatton's low tenor in a lonesome chorus. Holey Bones is even more subdued – a guitar-based waltz that straddles the line between a pleasant stroll and a self-defeated crawl – a quick rumination on death both hopeful and cynical that briefly builds into layers of organ and synth textures before fading out to a lullaby.
Pirouette is packaged in hand painted sleeves with screen printed lyrics on the inside and pressed in a very limited run of 220.
